Small Salon Design: What You Really (don't) Need

If you don't have a large enough space for your salon, you should be very careful on how you use what you have. A salon design company can help you a great deal with the design. Small salons are great too, they offer a great intimacy feeling to customers and they feel more connected with you. Basic tips for salon design apply to both large, normal and small salons. If you do have a small salon, then you should compromise on some things. Here are the essentials that you really need or don't need for a salon:

You don't need a waiting area
Instead of a special waiting area, incorporate your retail area and reception desk into an all-in-one area where customers can wait, shop or speak with the receptionist. Managing your clients scheduled visits so they don't overlap is an important part of every small salon, especially those that don't have a big waiting area.

You need more mirrors
Mirrors give an illusion of a bigger (doubled) space. Of course you are going to have mirrors in your beauty salon, but you need to have more. A good tip is to make a mirror wall.

You don't need a lot of chairs
Why put up a lot of styling chairs if you don't use them all at the same time? You should manage your time and clients so you don't have more then 2 or 3 clients at the same time. That way you won't need to cramp up the salon with empty chairs that nobody uses.

You need to be more organized
Don't have everything everywhere. Tidy up your salon and organize your equipment. Put all your essential items in an accessible area and put other equipment in storage cabinets. When you have more clients and the salon is busy it's hard to stay organized. But you have to learn to do it and you will make a habit of it. You don't really loose too much time if you take a second to put the blow drier back where it should be.

You don't need house plants
Sure, they look and smell beautiful. But if you have a small salon you will have to make sacrifices and compromises. You can put your house plants right outside your store. Or you could buy some smaller house plants and put them up on some cabinet or on the wall. Smaller house plants look better in a small salon anyway.

These tips should help you free up some space and make your small salon better. Do you have a small salon? What are some pointers you would recommend?
