How To Design The Reception Area For Your Salon

The reception area is one of the things that salon owners usually don't pay much attention to. They should though, because it's the first thing every customer sees and it's an important part of salon design. There are lots of different ways that you can design your reception area - from salon furniture to a small retail area. Here are some basic tips and guidelines you can go through:

The Reception Area Should be Easy to Find

This may seem like an obvious statement but you'd be surprised how much salons neglect their reception area and put it in a corner. When a customer walks into the salon, he should not pass the whole salon just to get there. It should be very accessible so that the customer can ask a question or make an appointment without annoying other customers.

Is the Receptionist Comfortable?

You should always ask this question, to yourself and to the receptionist. Bare in mind that the receptionist will sit in the reception area the whole day and he/she is the representation of your salon. The receptionist makes the first impressions to customers and a happy receptionist means a happy customer. Make sure that the receptionist has a comfortable chair to sit in - and this doesn't mean that it should be the most expensive chair. Every person has different sitting needs - so maybe your receptionist will want to stand or sit on a fitness ball. Every means necessary for your receptionist to be happy and comfortable.

Don't place your retail area behind your reception area

If you have a retail area, you should NOT place it behind the reception desk. If you do so, customers will have to talk to the receptionist to check out a product which is a big negative side for some customers. The retail area may be close to the reception desk, but never behind it. That just makes your receptionist more busy and your customers more awkward. When you have your retail area close to your reception desk the customer will still be able to talk to the receptionist but at least now he has a choice.

This 3 simple tips should guide your through your design process. Make sure to still do your research and make your reception area as beautiful and as unique as possible.
